The Maison Repossi akin to other famed jewelry houses has a proud family history. It was first established in Turin, in 1920, by Gian Petro Repossi. The family, consisting of talented designers and artisans, handed the business down from father to son and, eventually, from father to daughter. Costantino Repossi, the founder’s son, took over management of the business, during the post-war period, and went on to set up the first boutique of the brand within the same city.
He is credited for the house’s earliest Art Deco and Avant-Garde collections. Eventually, the founder’s grandson, Alberto, aimed to win the international market by stepping into the business towards the end of the 1970s and opening a boutique in Monte Carlo in 1979 followed by another, in 1986, at the renowned Place Vendôme in Paris. The collections put forward by the brand were of graphic and sophisticated styles; the metal being carved or inscribed and the stones being set gradually. These features form the signature of the brand promoting its way to success; making it the official jeweler of Monaco’s Prince Rainier.
In 2007, Gaia Repossi assumed the post of artistic and creative director of the brand; resulting in the house’s continuing to create its famed designs. Designs that were highlighted by clean lines and were minimalist creations known as “architectural jewelry”. In 2010, she formed a merger with Alexander Wang and introduced the renowned “Berbère” collection which became Repossi’s iconic collection. Gaia’s Berbère and black-gold Art Nouveau Nérée collections are truly remarkable with her minimalist Berbère jewelry pieces being highly favored in the entertainment world.
Even though, Gaia Repossi happens to be the third generation to take control of the Repossi House. She states that despite being located on Place Vendôme, the original ateliers that were used by her father and grandfather in northern Italy are still being used; the head of the atelier is the same person who worked alongside her father for 30 years.
