IWC, International Watch Company, has a deep-rooted heritage. It’s founder, Florentine Ariosto Jones, was an aspiring American engineer and manufacturer of watches. At the young age of 27 years, he had been designated deputy director and manager for a prominent American watchmaker, E. Howard Watch and Clock Co., in Boston. Jones decided to travel to the town of Schaffhausen, in Switzerland, for the purpose of establishing the IWC in 1868.
He considered the area a good location for a factory owing to the presence of modern technology, eminently qualified Swiss watchmakers, and the close proximity of the River Rhine; for the use of hydropower. Following an initial struggle, the manufacturing unit was soon on its way to the successful series production of watches targeting the American market.
After a period of 12 years, Jones sold his factory to Johannes Rauschenbach-Vogel, a Swiss industrialist. Hardly a year after the deal had been made, the new owner died; leaving ownership of the business to his son. After a few years, the first digital watch was invented and over time, the development of complex chronophages was witnessed with the brand acquiring a reputation for creating innovative timepieces that were simple to operate.
At first, the brand targeted customers of the elite class with its luxury watch products; magnificent designs of wristwatches, sophisticated rectangular-shaped watches and more. However, it wasn’t long before another market, that of the aviation and marine sector came into view. The first waterproof watches, working efficiently underwater at a depth of 300m, catering for the requirements of professional divers, were introduced. One of the most popular of these was the large 52 TSC aviator watch. The watches with their classic designs and advanced mechanisms are absolutely irresistible.
A long-standing name for aviator watches, IWC is currently engaged in the manufacture of top-class luxury watches. The creations inclusive of the Portuguese, Engineer, Portofino, and Da Vinci collections (sophisticated watches for both men and women) all give evidence of the brand’s remarkable talent. At present, newer models are constantly emerging with each one finding immense favor amongst connoisseurs and watch fanatics as well.
An IWC watch has always been symbolic of sophistication and perfection, meeting the requirements of the middle-class and sports enthusiasts. The time has arrived for you to satisfy your desire of purchasing pre-owned IWC watches, displayed in our shop windows, at affordable prices.
