The Kutchinsky brand was founded in 1893 on the arrival in England of Hirsch Kutchinsky from Poland. Kutchinsky and his family had vast experience in the jewelry trade, having been royal jewelers to the court of Ludwig of Bavaria. They established their jewelry business in the East End of London.
In 1930, the founder’s son Morris collaborated with his sons Joseph and Solomon. Joseph was 16 years old at the time and he emerged as a highly talented and enthusiastic jewelry creator. Joseph was a born salesman and under his capable management, the business continued to thrive. Kutchinsky jewelry is renowned, since the 1930s, for its quality and magnificence.
In 1958, the company shifted from the Commercial Road establishment in the East to the Brompton Road in West London’s Knightbridge. Today, these ancient ornaments are much sought-after by both lovers of jewelry as well as collectors.
The Kutchinsky house was one of the first in London to produce jewelry creations with platinum; it went on to initiate jewelry designs having a combination of semi-precious stones and diamonds. The outstanding appearance of these modern jewelry creations contributed to the brand’s success.
The jewelry, replicas of animal characters, has enabled the Kutchinsky house to compete with other prominent jewelry brands. The most renowned pieces are 18K yellow gold brooches and pins, adorned with diamonds and semi-precious stones, taking the shape of a bird, tiger or cat.
Kutchinsky ornaments are highly exclusive due to their alluring creative designs, such as python-shaped bracelets or watches made in yellow gold and decorated with diamonds or pink sapphires. Ornaments like brooches, bangles, rings, and earrings are decorated with diamonds in circular marquise and baguette shapes, embellished with colorful gems or adorned with bright corals and turquoises.
Quaint replicas of animals and birds are often linked with the Kutchinsky name, made in 18k yellow gold, set with gems or colored enamel. Indeed a wondrous collection of animal characters has been created by the company over time. Eventually, Joseph’s two sons, Roger and Paul, entered the business which was continuously gaining popularity amongst customers both at home and overseas, specifically within the Middle East. In 1991, the business was bought by Moussaieff Jewelers Ltd.
