The fascinating history of the Girard-Perregaux house can be traced back to the year 1791. This was when the famous watchmaker and jeweler, Jean-Franҫois Bautte established the Jean-Franҫois Bautte & Company. In 1852, an ambitious couple by the name of Constant Girard, a skilled watchmaker, and his spouse Marie Perregaux decided to form the house Girard-Perregaux. The brand’s superb quality timepieces with modern technology and innovation contributed to its enhanced popularity beyond the borders of Switzerland. The two companies agreed to merge, in 1906, under the name of Girard-Perregaux.

Girard-Perregaux’s innovations in the world of quartz timekeeping ensured that it lived through the economic crisis of the Swiss watch industry, in the 1970s and 1980s. Even though it didn’t prosper during the crisis period, it totally survived and came through stronger than before. The brand persisted in the manufacture of top-quality mechanical watches.

Furthermore, their superb watchmaking skill led to the winning of another gold medal, in 1889, for the magnificent “La Esmeralda” wristwatch, a real masterpiece having a tourbillon fitted with three gold bridges. The product of years of innovation that was also exhibited at the Universal Exposition of Paris.
