Gay Frères was established in 1835 in Geneva through the collaboration of Jean-Pierre and Gaspard Tissot. Initially, it specialized in the manufacture of handmade gold chains, that were used with pocket watches, and other types of jewelry accessories. By the 70s Gay Frères, still run by the family, was operating the biggest factory in Geneva with a workforce of more than 500 specialist craftsmen.
