Gay Frères was established in 1835 in Geneva through the collaboration of Jean-Pierre and Gaspard Tissot. Initially, it specialized in the manufacture of handmade gold chains, that were used with pocket watches, and other types of jewelry accessories. During the 20th century, consumer choice began to move away from pocket watches to wristwatches. The brand accordingly shifted to the production of beautifully crafted metal bracelets to be worn with luxury watches. These bands were a perfect fit for the quality of the timepiece they were made for.
The Gay Frères or the Gay Brothers brand, by the start of the 1930s, acquired recognition as the leading manufacturer of ultramodern bracelets. Its prominent customers were inclusive of TAG Heuer, Rolex, Patek Philippe & Co, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, amongst others.
By the 70s Gay Frères, still run by the family, was operating the biggest factory in Geneva with a workforce of more than 500 specialist craftsmen. Alongside watchmaking, the business started to design and create jewelry. The enhancement in the production of precious gems led Gay Frères to avail of the opportunity to create necklaces, bracelets, torques, cuffs, and rings with preferred animal motifs, such as tiger, leopard, and stallion heads. The clasps of the exquisite Swiss wristwatches were adorned with precious gems too. The brand creations were made with precious metals, with or without diamonds and gemstones as well as organic materials like ebony, tortoiseshell, and ivory tones.
Gay Frères have more than a century of experience dealing with precious ornaments and the jewelry industry; mastering design techniques of genuine and luxury jewelry to meet the demands of an ever-increasing market.
