Chaumet Olympic medals with a piece of the Eiffel Tower
Paris 2024 and Chaumet unveiled the Olympic medals for the 2024 Games a few days ago. They will take place in the capital from July 26 to August 11, the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8.
Designed by Chaumet and manufactured by the Monnaie de Paris , each of the 5,084 medals produced uses 18 grams of iron from the Eiffel Tower . The medals were presented to the press in the historic salons of the Maison’s headquarters on Place Vendôme. The victorious athletes will therefore be able to return home with a real piece of Paris on their medal.
Embossed with the Olympic flame and rings, a hexagonal iron piece is set in the center of each medal. This shape symbolizes France. The hexagon on jewelry is also fashionable. The sun motif is a Chaumet trademark. It is notably visible on tiaras from the 1920s and old Chaumet bracelets from the 1970s.
“ The rays of sunshine represent a brilliant sporting achievement, the French pride of hosting the Games and Paris as the City of Light, ” said Benoît Verhulle, Chaumet’s workshop manager. “ When the light illuminates the medals, they really come to life, ” he added.
On the back we find the traditional Greek goddess of victory, Nike , alongside the Pantheon and the Olympic rings, as well as the Eiffel Tower itself.

Luxury Olympic medals: a first in the history of the Games
“ This is the first time in the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games that a jeweler has designed the medals, ” said Antoine Arnault. The creative team at Maison Chaumet designed each medal as a piece of jewelry , drawing inspiration from the expertise of its legendary workshops on Place Vendôme.
And for the record, Gustave Eiffel was a client of the House! In 1890, shortly after the completion of the Eiffel Tower, he bought a Chaumet necklace for his daughter.
Input from the athletes themselves was a key part of the design process. “ An Olympic medal is what makes young athletes’ eyes light up. It had to be something really special, ” said Martin Fourcade, President of the Athletes’ Commission and former French Olympic biathlon champion. “ This is the only material item left from my 3 Olympic Games. Winning a medal is taking home a piece of history, so we knew the medals had to be timeless and symbolic. ”
